Blog Description

Frances Richardson Currer (1785-1861) was a wealthy Yorkshire heiress and an avid collector, primarily of books. The library at her home, Eshton Hall, consisted of an estimated 20,000 volumes at her death. Its particular strengths included illustrated botanical works, history and antiquarian books. Her friendships with fellow bibliophiles Richard Heber and T. F. Dibdin contributed to her being recognised in male circles as a prominent book collector, a unique feat at that time.
Currer wished for her collection to be preserved as a legacy for her family. Upon her death, however, her brother sold the majority of it. This blog aims to rebuild her legacy by examining each book in her collection, where possible giving the current location of Currer's copy and a link to a digital version.
If you are the owner, or librarian for the owner, of a Richardson Currer book then I would be excited to hear from you. Please email me at: tari_kalie@hotmail.com
